GOVT FAILURE TO ACCEPT KEY ROYAL COMMISSION RECOMMENDATION WILL PUT AGED CARE HOMES UNDER GREATER PRESSURE, WARNS CATHOLIC HEALTH AUSTRALIA
July 2, 2021CHA WARNS OF COVID BLINDSPOT IF COMMUNITY AGED CARE WORKERS LEFT OUT OF VACCINE MANDATE
July 2, 2021An epidemic of dengue fever in 1926 stretched the little hospital to its limits, sparking an appeal for a bigger and brighter future. It was the beginning of an expansion program which has seen the hospital continually evolve to support the community’s healthcare needs.
100 years since its inception and St Vincent’s is now an acute surgical, medical, rehabilitation and palliative care hospital providing wide ranging services. Today it has an increasingly diverse range of services with some 170 accredited specialists.
St Vincent’s CEO Steve Brierley said: “In our centenary year we pay tribute to St Vincent’s founders who were extraordinarily resourceful and driven by a clear vision for better healthcare for the people of Northern New South Wales.
A century on and is the extraordinary care our more than 550 staff exhibit each day that is the hallmark of St Vincent’s. In fact our entire history has been defined by the spirit and selfless contribution of our doctors, our nurses, support staff, and our volunteers. And as we look to our future, it is our unique history that inspires us to keep serving our community with great healthcare.”
To mark the occasion St Vincent’s has created an online Centenary Hub featuring 100 years of photos, a video telling the hospital’s story and a documented history. Go to https://100years.svh.org.au
The hospital recently held a Centenary Dinner attended by Bishop Gregory Homeming OCD, Janelle Saffin the Member for Lismore and the Honourable Kevin Hogan, the member for Page.
As part of the Diocese of Lismore. St Vincent’s Hospital’s mission is to provide health care to improve the life, comfort and functioning of those in its care.
