Once again as the pandemic enters a new phase and gains apace in Victoria I know that you will all be working hard again to ensure that residents and staff are kept safe.
We thank our members for all of the precautionary measures that they have put in place to protect residents and staff, both at the start of the pandemic and now. This has included some difficult decisions including restricting the number of visitors to homes, where a balance is required between protecting residents and maintaining important social contact
In the face of some criticism our members did what they had to do to and it was the right course of action to take; thankfully we have so far avoided the terrible toll that the pandemic has exacted in aged care homes in other countries, namely Spain, the United Kingdom and the US.
CHA will continue to work closely with government to identify other areas where we can support you. Until then I ask you to join me in praying for residents and staff in homes in areas where the pandemic is surging.
