CATHOLIC HEALTH AUSTRALIA LAUNCHES NEW MISSION SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM FOR FUTURE AGED CARE LEADERS

Catholic Health Australia is offering a new scholarship to attend the prestigious Ministry Leadership Program at the Australian Catholic University.

The scholarship is open to people working at a managerial level in the Catholic aged care sector and will help expand the successful mission program to new participants.

It is named in honour of the noted theologian and anthropologist and supporter of Catholic mission Fr Gerald Arbuckle SM.

Catholic Health Australia CEO Pat Garcia said: “The Mission Leadership Program is incredibly successful and has grown in stature over the years. It not only keeps the Catholic mission alive, it helps it grow.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for someone to join our mission, to be mentored by Catholic leaders and help us foster new collaborations and opportunities across the aged sector and beyond.

“We are looking for a future leader who will help inspire and motivate others to and help promote the mission and ensure its values are integrated into all aspects of our aged case sector.”

Fr Gerard said: “Fostering leaders who have a deep understanding of mission is crucially relevant to maintaining Catholic identity in contemporary contexts. The MLP offers participants, individually and as members of a group, the chance to immerse themselves more deeply in the founding values of Catholic aged care facilities through a process of study and reflection that builds on their experience.”

“The program is essentially a reflective and transforming process of self-growth for emerging leaders that nurtures their inner resources and awareness as much as their knowledge and skills.”

As one recent graduate commented: “I have walked away from each session with desire, knowledge and ability to practically apply what I have learned within my organisation.”

The next Mission Leadership Program (MLP) starts in May 2021 and involves an in-study component in Victoria.

The MLP was set up by Catholic Health Australia in 2017 and since its inception more than 120 people have graduated from its program.

It became so successful and in-demand that ACU took over the reins earlier this year so that the program could grow beyond the health care sector and open up to more faith-based organisations.
